“Rumors” Name Frontrunner For Ohio State Job If Urban Meyer Is Fired

(Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images)Urban Meyer might have coached his final game at Ohio State, as the Buckeyes placed the national title-winning head coach on paid administrative leave Wednesday night, hours after college football insider Brett McMurphy reported that Meyer knew more than he led on about the domestic violence allegations against Zach Smith.Ohio State has named an interim head coach. The Buckeyes will be led at the moment by offensive assistant coach Ryan Day.Day, a former Chip Kelly assistant, is in his second year with Ohio State. He’s been widely praised by the coaching community and reportedly turned down head coaching jobs to stay at Ohio State.If Urban Meyer is indeed done at Ohio State, it’s possible that the Buckeyes could end up moving forward with Day, depending on how the 2018 season goes.Ohio State could also have a major coaching search.A current Big 12 coach is believed by some to be the frontrunner if that happens.Multiple rumors hitting us that Iowa State coach Matt Campbell would be frontrunner for Ohio State job if it became open.— Andrew Perloff (@andrewperloff) August 2, 2018Campbell is an Ohio native and is one of the hottest young names in coaching.
