Theo Riddick is heading to Denver. The Broncos announced they signed the running back Sunday, one week after the Lions released him. We’ve signed RB Theo Riddick.— Denver Broncos (@Broncos) August 4, 2019According to KUSA-TV, which cited an unidentified league source, Riddick is slated to make $2.5 million with $1 million guaranteed from a one-year deal. He could make $3.3 million with incentives. To make room for Riddick, the Broncos placed defensive lineman Billy Wynn on injured reserve. Related News Riddick was primarily used as a receiving tailback last season, which would alert defenses to the Lions’ playcalling with him. He also wasn’t as efficient with his catches toward the end of his time in Detroit. The 28-year-old spent six seasons with the Lions, where he logged 288 carries for 1,023 rushing yards and five TDs.He’s also caught 285 balls for 2,238 yards and 14 TDs. NFL Hall of Fame Game 2019: Three takeaways from Broncos’ win over Falcons Broncos’ Drew Lock calls debut against Falcons a ‘learning game’ After Detroit cut Riddick, he met with the Saints along with the Broncos and decided between the two teams.Riddick is expected to ease the workload for Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman in his new role. Coach Vic Fangio said the team plans to hit the ground running with him when he joins the squad.“Right now he’s going to get thrown in the mix,” Fangio told reporters after practice Sunday. “He’s had a good history in his career of being a good receiver out of the backfield and a good threat in that way. Obviously, we’ll see if we can fit him in that way and he still has that going for him. He’s been a good receiver. I’ve seen him play the last four years in the same division and he had a couple good routes here today.”With the addition of Riddick, this could mean Devontae Booker’s role with the team is in question, with him and Riddick competing for the rest of the preseason for the third running back position.
