Exclusive – Lawrence backs Crystal Palace to comfortably avoid relegation

first_imgFormer Crystal Palace defender Matt Lawrence told talkSPORT he is confident Tony Pulis can steer the club to safety next season despite a lack of investment in the squad. The Eagles finished 11th last season but looked odds on for relegation at one stage, before the former Stoke manager succeeded Ian Holloway and took charge in November.Pulis’ transfer dealings this summer have been relatively low key and he has only managed to bring in Brede Hangeland, Fraizer Campbell and Chris Kettings. But Lawrence believes Palace can still succeed next season and told Sam Matterface on Kick Off: “I still think they could do with another centre forward and maybe another centre midfielder as well. Whether that happens, who knows.“I’m sure Tony Pulis isn’t massively happy with the fact he’s only brought in three signings this transfer window, I’m sure he wants others. But he did so well with the squad he had, I’m sure he’s not that bothered and I think Palace will have a very good season.“I’m not saying they’re going to finish top 10 or anything like that but I think they will avoid relegation relatively easily.“Tony Pulis proves season after season he knows the Premier League very well and he can manage a squad and a team that’s relatively limited techincally wise.”last_img
