Ian Rush on what Liverpool MUST do in the summer

first_imgLiverpool must strengthen their forward options in the summer, according to Anfield great Ian Rush. With Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez leading a formidable attack, the Reds plundered 101 Premier League goals last season. This term, with Suarez gone and Sturridge having struggled for fitness, Brendan Rodgers’ side have struggled in front of goal and have hit less than half that amount with six games left of the campaign.Speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, Rush said: “Last season, we were fantastic. We were scoring for fun.“It is the other way around this season. We are stopping goals going in and not scoring.“Even last night [against Newcastle] you have got to score that second goal early to get you safe. To do that, we need to strengthen the scoring power.”With the Reds having failed to launch another title challenge and having suffered an early exit in the Champions League, manager Rodgers has come under-fire at times this season. But Rush insists it could still turn out to be a successful campaign for the club if they go on to lift the FA Cup and beat Manchester City to a top four spot.“There is still a long way to go,” said the Welshman. “I felt we overachieved last season. If we can finish in the top four and win a trophy, for me that is progression.”last_img
